ADULT GARDEN WORKSHOP

WHO: Adults and Seniors

WHEN: Saturday, 10am-11am, 6 classes

March 29th, April 5th, 12th, 26th, May 10th, 17th, 30th 2025

WHERE: Weinberg Nature Center, Common Garden and Greenhouse

WHO: Beginner and Intermediate Levels 

COST: FEE: $200 (Scarsdale residents) $230 (Mamaroneck Strip) $240 (non-residents)

Take home plantings. Topics include but not limited to: Spring soil care and planting prep, organic pest control, starting seeds indoors, planting calendar/zone, starting a vegetable garden, herb gardening, container/raised bed gardening, atttracting pollinators, native plant gardening, stagger spring blloming, wise watering, fruit planting, gardening for wildlife, garden tools essentials, edible landscaping. Utilizing garden spaces at Weinberg Nature Center. â€‹

Participants will draw from their own gardening goals, embracing traditional and alternative gardening practices, bridging horticultural experiments at Weinberg to one's home environment.

 

WNC: Little Ferns Nature Program (80% outdoors).

WHO:  Ages 2.5 to 5 years old

WHEN: April 1st - June 13th SPRING SEMESTER

5 classes per week, Monday - Friday

Based on the European forest school, Montessori approaches to education and other experiential models, Little Ferns integrates nature, skill-building, and applied literacy education, utilizing multiple learning sites at the Nature Center. 6 outdoor educational classroom sites, open green, greenhouse, outside garden, compost station, hiking trails and 2 indoor classrooms (including an Animal Room with 25 animal species). STEAM-programs are 80% outdoors during warm months and about 40-60% outdoors during cold months. Students connect with local flora and fauna as well as the 28 resident animal species, daily. Little Ferns closely follows the Scarsdale school calendar year.

WHO: Ages 2 – 5-year-olds accompanied by parent/nanny

WHEN: 8 Mondays, 3:30pm-4:30pm​,

WHERE: Open Green at Weinberg Nature Center

Get to know resident Weinberg animals in outdoors settings, learning everything wildlife, going on nature trail hikes, and creating botanical and animal art at multiple learning sites at the Nature Center. Age-appropriate programming.

YOUTH PROGRAMS--

WNC: Woodworking and Walking Sticks

FOR: 7 - 11 year olds  

DATES: Friday, 4pm-5pm, March 28th, April 25th, May 20th, June 13th 2025

LOCATION: Weinberg Nature Center

FEE: $120 (Scarsdale residents) $138 (Mamaroneck residents) $145 (non-residents) 

We will make a totem pole of native animals at the Nature Center Entrance, explore the forest and local ecology at Weinberg Nature Center and Saxon Woods, learn the safe uses of basic hand-held and electric power tools. Take home wood projects.
